We built Vocala to be ambient and unobtrusive — that philosophy extends to data too.
Vocala ("the App", "we", "us") is an ambient noise monitor designed for social gatherings, meetings, and classrooms. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and your rights in relation to it.
By using Vocala you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.
Vocala requests access to your device's microphone for one purpose only: measuring ambient sound levels in real time. The App processes raw audio data on-device to compute decibel readings. No audio is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted.
Audio data is consumed as a live stream of numeric measurements (dB values). The underlying audio signal is discarded immediately after each 25 ms sample window. There is no audio file, buffer, or cache stored anywhere.
On iOS, microphone access is suspended when the App moves to the background, in accordance with Apple platform rules. You may revoke microphone permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
The table below summarises every category of data the App handles.
Session history, your calibration offset, and all preferences are stored using Apple's NSUserDefaults (SharedPreferences) on your device. This data never leaves your device through the App.
Deleting the App removes all locally stored data. You can also clear session history within the App's History screen.
Vocala uses RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases. When you purchase Vocala Pro, RevenueCat processes a pseudonymous user ID and your App Store receipt to verify your entitlement. We never receive your payment card details.
RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
The App does not integrate any advertising SDKs, analytics platforms, social SDKs, or crash reporting services.
Vocala is intended for general audiences and is commonly used in classrooms by teachers. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because no personal data is collected from any user, Vocala is safe for use in educational environments.
Because Vocala does not transmit personal data to our servers, most data subject rights (access, deletion, portability) are exercisable directly on your device by deleting sessions within the App or uninstalling it entirely.
For any RevenueCat-related data requests, please contact RevenueCat directly at their privacy portal or reach out to us and we will assist you.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the App or applicable law. Material changes will be communicated via an App Store update note. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
Questions, concerns, or requests regarding this policy are welcome.
